Suncoast Stud Reinforcement System (SRS)

For Flat-slab Shear Reinforcement

For use in flat-plate framing, the Suncoast Stud Reinforcement System® (Suncoast SRS® ) is a form of shear reinforcement using Nelson Punching Shear Resistor (PSR) studs, factory-welded to flat steel bars. The Suncoast SRS provides punching shear resistance in flat reinforced concrete slabs and footings, replacing or supplementing resistance provided by stirrups, drop panels or column capitals.

Materials Description

The Nelson PSR studs used in the SRS assemblies are 3/8, 1/2 and 3/4 inches in diameter and comply with the material requirements and specifications of ASTM A 1044. The studs are made from carbon steel and have the following physical properties:

  • Minimum yield strength: 51,000 psi
  • Minimum tensile strength: 65,000 psi
  • Minimum elongation: 20 percent in 2 inches
  • Minimum reduction of area: 50 percent in 2 inches

The flat steel bars are formed from carbon steel and have the following physical properties:

  • Minimum yield strength: 44,000 psi
  • Minimum tensile strength: 65,000 psi
  • Minimum elongation: 20 percent in 8 inches
  • Minimum reduction of area: 50 percent in 8 inches

The PSR studs are factory-welded by Suncoast Post-Tension to the flat steel bars using Nelson Stud Welding equipment in accordance with procedures recommended by Nelson.

The Suncoast SRS complies with 2009 International Building Code® (2009 IBC), 2006 International Building Code® (2006 IBC® ) and 1997 Uniform Building Code™ (UBC) and conforms to ATSM A 1044 and Section 3.3.5 of ACI 318-08.
